4/14 Years of Christmas Art Ornaments Snowboarder Ornament

This sheet aluminum and wire mobile ornament was from around the time the kids got my my wife and me into snowboarding.

Our kids have been instructors for years, and they had talked us into it that year so it seemed like a good design.

Good decision!

6/14 Years of Christmas Ornament Gift Art

This Christmas ornament design comes from spiral mobiles I have made.

The mobiles are larger with more  pieces than this little ornament.

It is brass sheet metal with brass wire and about 3 inches.

40-50 were made.

8/12 Years of Christmas Gift Art Jingle Bells Ornament

Year eight was this mobile ornament made from brass wire and jingle bells.

I made 40-50 of these and one larger piece as well as some earrings using this design.

The middle wire (I call the wires of mobiles armatures) shape has since become an often used design element in my wire sculptures and Christmas gift artwork.

8/14 Years of ChristmasGift Sculpture

Standing Spinning Christmas Tree Sculpture

The year of the spinning Christmas tree was when I was balancing metal “s” shapes in to pieces that swing and spin. Some of them stand some of them hang.

The tree is simply three painted metal triangles bent and balanced.

9/14 Years of Christmas Gift Making

Thanks for the penguin likes. You probably (hopefully) will notice that the gifts get better as the years go by. May that continue. Hopefully we all improve over time. We really hope my blogging does too!

So here is the painted sheet metal and wire snowman (with a piece of plastic weed whip string for a “carrot” nose). This was the sixth year’s gift. 40-50 of these were made.

10/14 Years of Christmas Gift Artwork

Christmas Gift Art Penguin Sculpture

Just because there are no penguins at the north pole does not mean they can’t be good Christmas gift art.

This “penguin” has a swinging body with a bobbly head and beak.

The little bird (about 6 inches)  is painted sheet metal and wire.

11/14 Years of Christmas Gifts

Christmas Reignmoose

The fourth year (? the order of years 4-9 is still being debated!) of making Christmas artwork was this attempt at a reindeer. It is a kinetic hanging ornament that articulates in three places giving its legs, body and head independent motion.

The antlers do give it a moose-like appearance so we like to call it a reinmoose!

12/14 Years of Christmas Gift Art

The third year of making Christmas gift art was this brass wire ornament. It is a spiral tree shape with a star on top inside another spiral representing a traditional “ball” ornament.

It is shaped from a single piece of wire plus a second to make a hook for hanging. There were 30-40 of these made that year.

Fourteen years of Christmas Gift Art

Weathered copper frog mobile on lily pad

Christmas shopping in the boondocks had its limitations. My budget did too.(still does!)

I was just starting to produce sculpture.

Why not make a few gifts? So it began. Fourteen years ago. The Pollock Christmas collection.

Funny thing though, the artwork that was being made at that time really didn’t have a Christmas theme. (frogs? really?)That has changed over the years.

Frog mobiles were first because thats what I was working on at that point. They were well received so I kept making artistic gifts as well as other sculptures.

The posts from now thru Christmas will be of the Christmas  gifts I made for friends and family instead of shopping.
